this means that the custom_title variable is not defined in the model.

likely the xml file (vqmod) is not amending/editing the correct file.

What agrimabo say is correct, but for an extensions to not work properly it's most possible had conflict with other extensions.
To ensure it's work properly (for both exts) you should contact the developer.
