Hi - to be honest, the lack of documentation is really starting to pi$$ me off.  Hawking unsolicited paid support as an excuse for lack of information is *not* in the spirit of open source, at least not in my ten years of using it, and a vast array of software.  With that off my chest...

I'm trying to do the simplest of things, but opencart makes it so difficult to so - set the language to en_AU (yes, there is more to the world than the US or Europe), and change the flag to an Australian flag.  I seem to have ended up in a loop - where I have multiple languages in the locale section, none of which can be deleted because they are the default language!  Changing the default language in settings does NOT stick - it just keeps merrily going back to English (rather than English Australia which is in the drop down list due to m efforts of trying to figure out how this all works with next to no documentation).  Deleting the englishAU.php file that I created (based off the english.php file found in the admin and catalogue sections respectively) breaks opencart, so that it will *not* load ANYTHING at all.

So, to sum up - I can't change my default language, I can't delete the languages that I added via the GUI, I can't remove them from the host either due to it killing opencart.  I am not a programmer, and to be honest, I shouldn't be expected to have to try and learn a programming language.  I work in IT, I'm highly computer literate, and I'm fair with html/css, but that's it.  php is foreign to me, as is JS.  I have no interest in learning them.  Can't we just make the GUI so that things can be done from there, without having to tediously muck around with the backend?  I mean, that's the whole idea of a GUI...

Anyways, I've had my whinge, if anyone wants to help me try and sort out what I've done wrong, I'd appreciate it.  If not, I'll simply remove opencart and be off to other pastures.

Dave

Sorry - but I've spent 2 hours+ screwing around with this tonight, and one hour last night and I'm not really in the mood for more of it.

update: have figured out how to remove the Au stuff (not very logical or obvious I might add, at least not to me, and probably the average person).  Have gotten it all back to the original default look.  Will give it one more try tomorrow night with an idea that I have that I hope will make it work, if not I give up.

Hi Dave,

I have been playing with OpenCart for a quite a while now (I am not one of the developers) and have not noticed anyone "hawking unsolicited support". However, with your experience, you must have noticed that the business model of some open source projects does involve the sale of documentation and support.

The language(s) in OpenCart support translations, not locale as such. The flag image for the default template is in the folder catalog\template\default\image and is called en.png you could provide another image and give it that name. Otherwise, english is still english... even here in Australia.

Thanks Bruce - I did search the forum for this which lead to the direction that I took.  This is what I mean about poor documentation, sorry if I sound like I'm bashing opencart, but it's one thing that I really dislike about ANY project.  Call it a pet hate.

Dave

PS, English is most certainly not English - as an example, US English is quite different to both British English and Australian English, hence different ISO locales...

Thanks Bruce, your suggestion did the trick with the Aussie flag.  Nice, simply and easy.  With someone elses help, I got rid of the mastercard/visa card images, as well as changed the default greeting as needed.  Looks much better now.  Said person is going to be hired to fix up a shipping and currency module for me in the very near future.  I don't mind paying people to do something for me, don't get me wrong, what I dislike is some of the posts that I've seen where instead of helping the person, they've said, why not hire someone to do it for you.  If I'd charged all the people that I've helped with open source stuff over the past 8 or so years, I'd have made some money, but I elected not to as I did not feel it was wholly in the spirit of open source.  It does come down to how much help do you expect for free, I do understand that complex help requiring specialist knowledge should demand a fee of some sort (up to the parties to negotiate of course).

I'm yet to add any categories or products, but I'm really hoping that it is much easier than some other parts of configuring opencart.
