Multi Stores with different domain names

I have tried nearly everything listed in this forum to get the multi stores to work without any success.

I have my main store that I want to run everything from. I have about 50 other specialised domains that I would like to run with their own content and a select few products from the main store with possible different sale prices. I want to use my main store theme, so that in the future they would return to the main store instead of the specialty stores.

I have tried "pointing" the domain to the main store in c panel. I've added the domain and created the store in the admin of the main store. With nothing. The closest I can get after about 20 attempts at different things including destroying my website by coping and creating folders in cpanel, is to get the other domains to redirect to the main website. Which they were already doing.

What instructions are not being told? Does my website hosting have a number of individual domain/website restrictions? Do I need to purchase an extension? Is there some backend modification?

I'm really frustrated, I have just over 50 domains I have owned for nearly 3 years and have just being wasting my time and money not being able to use them.

If someone can give me a good lead that would be fantastic.

My guess is you are "pointing" the domain instead of setting the document root.
