vqmod + security question

Hi, in the advice given in the forums and the OC documentation, it says to ensure admin/index.php has permissions 644 or 444. But the vqmod documentation says to make sure admin/index.php and index.php are writeable (755 or 777). Once vqmod has been installed will it work correctly if admin/index.php is changed back to 644 or 444? I'd like to install vqmod, but don't want to compromise any security.

Also, once installed is there anything extra that should be done if a SSL certificate is installed. Would it be better to install SSL before or after vqmod?

Any advice would be appreciated.

after vqmod install, change the index files back to 644
SSL has no relation to vQmod. It will work either way.
