As e-commerce developers and Opencart specialists we regularly receive a sticky question: Can Opencart scale up to Magento level???

I personally believe that Magento is a Rube Goldberg machine http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rube_Goldberg_machine.

And about Opencart scaling-up http://www.rarepink.com http://www.diamondsinafrica.com both developed on opencart by us and having more than 1,50,000 products ends the debate. Both are functioning at amazing speed and use Amazon small instances.
I hope that this post will help ecommerce vendors who wish to use Opencart but are afraid to do so because of dozens of ill-written articles and infographics floating on the net claiming that OC is for small vendor and Magento for big players

Yes, OpenCart can be scaled up to accommodate even over a million products. Have seen it happened. Magento requires higher system requirements, so that ends the debate. It just so happens that Magento have more branded companies using it ::)
