There is a lot of modules to make Opencart multilingual for free but I think that Opencart can really progress if it include (modifieed or not) some in his core. Opencart need a automatic method of easy add languages (like prestashop languages pack, sorry comparation but more easy that explain it) and a comunity language translation system.
I propose a solution to this two things:
1. Comunity Language Integration (download and upload): Make people enable to translate a language and merge in a DB administrated by "Opencart Company", similar as wiki moderator system, where the most translated coindicence is what is best for this language (this way will be automatic best translation selection and don't need a moderator). This method can also apply to external modules (with the same system).
2. Total Multilingual Integration: Opencart is great for one language but there is a problem in other things that are not descriptions. When you use more at same time because some fields you can not change it (unless you put a lot of modules or a pay module). This problem is mery heavy in friendly url (SEO), banners and more less important in images(make possible images with text in diferent languages) and css (for blackbroung images). Why do you not take the best ones (free or not) and incorporate (modified or not) to the opencart core? or at least make this new ones functionalities that affect so many users.
There is more posibilities lo make easy like taxes, currency, metric system,... but this require less time and effort for user that ones I suggested, step by step.
