Hi
I am using opencart 1.5.5.1 and like it very much. Does anyone know when the version 1.5.6.1 or 2.0 will be released?
thanks
Bill

If all goes well, we might see both 1.5.6.1 and 2.0.0.0 by year's end.

The idea at

i am in the same boat. i currently use a different eCommerce solution and wanted to test out opencart.
i had looked for a beta or test version of 2.0 just to see what the code looks like and get a feel. anyone know where i may find that?

Hi.
I have a couple of minor bugs in my installation with 1.5.5.1.
I also have a lot of mods installed.
I would like to do a fresh install, 1 mod at a time and see what causes the problem. Also I might have some dead programming bits left behind all that time that don't get transferred this way, I think.
My questions are:
1. You do recommend still going on 1.5.5.1 and not even jump directly to 2.0 once it might be out in February 2014, right?
2. I want to try the new setup out first on a subdomain, but Softaculous would only install oc 1.5.6. Any tip how to install 1.5.5.1 properly any other way?
3. Thank you.

1. yes, wait for all releases to be stable before upgrading
2. Get v1.5.5.1 here:

One does NOT need Softaculous or other "help" to install OC-- you'll be best off using the OC .zip as MarketInSG suggests. There is already enough going on to install or upgrade OC, without additional and arguable software "knowhow" trying to "help" it. Some people swear by the additions, some people swear at the additions.

Thanks for the replies so far.
Now, since my shop is stable, I waited a while longer.
I want to get rid of the 50 odd extensions that I haven't uninstalled properly possibly and other junk that makes it slow, get a new theme and see bit by bit if the old extensions that I still want, still work.
Also I'm thinking about a cache module to speed up loading times.
I think I could be safe with 1.5.6.1. now and would really like to go ahead now.
I don't have a good plan though, yet, that I can trust.
I think it might be good to do all that on a test domain on my server, but all the urls would not work, wouldn't they.
It would be so much easier to just do a fresh install on the real one, but if something goes wrong, I don't know how to rectify it. So: Has someone got a road map of how to do it, please?
First, what exactly to back up (I usually only do my filezilla ftp public html backup every day),
and how to get the test url to run the new shop with the old data, images, and urls to try out the new store with all the adaptations needed in the modules.
And second, how to get that store, if it's running well, to the live url that is running right now?
I think, a lot of people want to do that, also when migrating, but I want to use this chance to also start fresh, obviously with all my content that I already have inside. But I haven't really found a source of information yet.
Thanks!
Alexandra

When OC 2.0 stable comes out most probably will ship with a script to make the update.
If you have a standard installation the process should be quite quick and easy.
A quick plan that you could follow would be:
- Make a back up of your online data/image, config.php, admin/config.php and if you have an custom made template catalog/view/template/yourtemplate
-create 2 new DBs one off line and one online.
-block new registrations on your live site and put up a msg that you are performing maintenance work
- export your online OC 1.5 DB and Import it on your off line new created DB.
- extract OC 2.0 and run the installation/update
- check that the database has been updated correctly and install it online on your new created DB
Edit your admin/config.php and config.php files to work on your environment online.
Start uploading all files online and to avoid any confusion rename them ie admin_new, catalog_new etc etc
once everything is on your live server rename the old files and folders accordingly ie. admin to admin_old and admin_new to admin.
make sure that you have also replaced data/image, config.php, admin/config.php and if you have an custom made template catalog/view/template/yourtemplate
Check if all works and if ok you can delete the old files or revert back.
