I am going nuts. I installed Opencart 1.5.6 as an attempt to move from another shopping cart.
I started to get some mysterious the page says "error" pop-ups. I have tried and tried to figure this out and I am at a loss.
I installed a clean install a few times of 1.5.6 and end up with this showing up randomly.

Today I installed a clean 1.5.5.1, vqmod, and the import tool. Imported products and added them to the cart. Same thing as with the previous 1.5.6 installs.... sometimes, but not all the time, I get the pop-up but ALWAYS as you switch between the cart and checkout or checkout and cart.

And as you can see it just says "error".

Any thoughts?

And a 100% stock install of 1.5.5.1. No vqmod, nothing but install, go to the storefront, add the 941BW monitor and go back and forth between the cart and checkout or checkout and cart.

Hurmph.

Edit: It also pops up with that error going from the cart or checkout to the home page too. Just at random with seeming like no rhyme or reason.

Still looking for others that have this issue and MAY have fixed it?

Now that my store is live on a temp domain (switching to my primary domain in about 2 weeks) I am getting customers telling me they are not happy with the error (if any of them tell me versus just going to another site to buy). So before I move to my primary domain I would like to see if we can find a fix.

Thank you,
Mike

I had this happen ages ago with 1.5.2 but don't remember what it was that caused it unfortunately. My first suggestion would make sure your chmod permissions are set correctly, disable any plug ins and use the default theme, but if I remember more, I'll post it.

Running Opencart v3.0.3.9 with multi-stores and the default template from https://www.labeshops.com which has links to all my stores.

Labelshops... that is the hard part to ID. I installed 1.5.5.1 as a test. Uploaded the compressed file, used my control panel to uncompress the files and folders, ran the install and ran a test. I got the same error (3 post above).

Now I am not 100% smart on this, should permissions be changed after this? The 1.5.5.1 was completely unchanged but I didn't make any permission changes since I didn't know if I needed to.

It gives the error on safari & google chrome but I haven't experienced it with InterNet Explorer.
It is just so hard to figure this one out without a definite error that gives something to go on. The "error" doesn't help tell me anything, nothing in any logs, and doesn't happen all the time.

Okay it is looking even more so that it is jquery related, as I suspected.

As you can see by using firebug it looks like when the "error" pops up it also flags jquery-1.8.3.min.js as the file kicking the error. At least that is my interpretation.

I have NO idea how to fix this as I tried jquery-1.6.4.min.js up to 1.9.1 and same results. Then comes the question is WHY I, and some others, have this problem but not a lot more people?

After install did you go into admin, and entered all required fields in store config, ie like store name email etc
also make sure mail is configured correctly.

victorj,
Yes, everything is set correctly and it all works except this pop-up error every once in a while.
What do you think could cause this error by filling out (or not filling out) the store config stuff? It seems counter intuitive to have this error from store config settings like store name and email, etc.

creating a account needs store email to send out a conformation email.

can you post a link without good information its just like angling without bait to solve matters.

will do a clean install in a few secs and see if i can replicate the problem

Victorj,
Everything does work, including all emails (new user, order, newsletter, etc.) the way I can reproduce is to keep click back and forth between pages. Like if I click between contact us and checkout, or between checkout and shopping cart, etc. Just to click back and forth and about 40 to 50% of the time Google Chrome or Safari kicks this error pop-up.

try to upload all files execpt config.php in root and admin using regular ftp so just to be sure all files are writen correctly.

will sent personal mail in PM for faster contact

I'll reply to you in email also but I also have done a regular FTP upload and I reproduce the same "error" pop up. Why exclude just config.phps?

Here is another thread that had other discussing the same thing: http://forum.opencart.com/viewtopic.php?f=20&t=85466

I have installed 1.5.5.1 and 1.5.6 three times each and I can reproduce the error with the same consistency. Plus to try and isolate this from being a computer or network issue I have went over to my girlfriends house and used her network and Macbook and safari. Same result.

After a few hours on this I'll have to revisit it again a bit later as I have to go eat in a couple of minutes and I am getting nowhere with reloading a fresh install a few times and I am running short on time to create databases, new folder, upload and run through the install (and I'm tired)

Well....
I overwrote all the files except the vqmod ones.
Deleted the qvmod cache files.
Deleted my htaccess file
Deleted my php.ini file

Tested.... same result.

Driving me crazy.

Repeated above with again a clean install of 1.5.5.1, minimal stuff in htaccess file, host provided info for php.ini with the php.ini info from Opencart added in, all compression off, and still get the error.

At more of a loss then before.

Still worked this in as many ways as I can think of short and one piece that still is interesting to me is that this does not happen ever in Internet Explorer.

I am 100% convinced this problem is more wide-spread then people think. Take a few of the websites in the live shop section and and test them. I chose 3 at random and ALL 3 give the same error using Google Chrome or Safari.

Hi Mike, I just resolved this on ny 1.5.6.4 installation. If you have the same situation (definitely possible), have a look at my fix posted just now: http://forum.opencart.com/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=127815
Regards, Chris.

Unfortunately you have this as the fix in your other post:
---------------------------------------------------------------
Modify config.php and change:
define('DB_HOSTNAME', '<your.fully.qualified.hostname>');
to:
define('DB_HOSTNAME', '<IP Address>'); //in my case, I needed 127.0.0.1
Note: angle brackets above indicate substitution information, DO NOT LEAVE THEM THERE!
---------------------------------------------------------------

but my config is:
define('DB_HOSTNAME', 'localhost');
Which equals the loopback IP you used '127.0.0.1'.

Just for giggles I changed it to that loopback address and the problem remains.

Did some more testing and found same problem occuring on test server.
it occurs when clicking back and foth between pages.
looks like a jquery problem and server not able to diliver it fast enough.

Now in the process of making opencart working more efficient and that looks like im going the right way.
