I know this has been covered a million times but please help

I did a new install and it was working fine for a client demo then this morning I cant get in.
Any ideas? my temp folder is root and it has 777 as permissions.

By "temp folder" you presumably mean where the installation was put for the time being, if not please say what that is all about. The 777 may be problematical for the Linux distribution even if there was no hacker. Go in now and set all permissions WITHIN public root (public (public_html/, www/, similar) to directories 755, files 644. If they do not stay reset, you have a problem. Be certain to delete /install/. Look for odd files in /download/ (when new there should be none or one index.html that has scant or no content). Look for any .directoryname (with DOT) directories.
