Problem with Pricing.. please help!

I am trying to add some test items to my site and every time I put in (for example) the amount of 18.00 it shows up in my store as 33.45 or something like that. I checked and I don't have any tax cost added or shipping for that matter so why is this?? I am using U.S.D too if that helps...
