Language pack installation

I apologize if this posted some place but wondered how the language packs that are available in the download area work. We have a client who is wanting a second language added to their English site, there is a language pack for the one they want to add available in the downloads area but my question is will that translate the existing site, all system text, their product names, product descriptions, options, page content..etc? Or will that just translate the system's core text but the owner will still have to add translation for product and page content? Will it be like Google translate in that once we download the pack and install it will it translate the whole site automatically or is there more work to it then that?

quick answer, no.

It will only translate system texts, but not product, categories, or any other things you added into the database.
