Hello there,

I have the following problem:

We have a Shop, inside the EU. Now we have Customers and Companies (=Customers with valid VAT IDs) who can buy from our shop. What we want to achieve is that Companies which resides (=Shipping Address) in OUR country needs to pay the taxes, and Companies that not resides in our country, but still in the EU, doesn't need to pay that taxes and an additional text should appear on the payment contract.

How do I achieve that?
ATM I have 2 Customer groups:
-Customers
-Customers with VAT ID (I thought they will get manually verified and moved there, but maybe it could get automized)

I have 2 GeoZones:
-MyCountry (-only my country)
-EU (-all countries of EU but mycountry)

I have tax rates:
VAT (20%) - EU - Customer groups: Customers, Geo Zone: EU
VAT (20%) - MYCOUNTRY- Customer groups: Customers, Geo Zone: MYCOUNTRY
VAT (-20%) - EU - Customer groups: Customers, Geo Zone: EU

Tax Class:
Product - with all rates and shipping adress applied

I think i'm missing something.

Is it possible to just subtract the Taxes IF the Company is in the EU but not from MyCountry?

Any help appreciated.

With kind regards

Hi Icsl

I have the same problem.

There are two modules that I've found that appear to do exactly what we want, but neither supports the latest version of Open Cart. One of them discontinued updates because he believes Open Cart would have the functionality built in from then on...but it doesn't!

I have added comments to both of the extensions in question asking if they will consider updating for 1.5.5.1 given that Open Cart really doesn't have the functionality built in.

(It will validate VAT numbers, but it doesn't decrement the VAT when the customer is in the EU and has entered a valid VAT number).

Jay Clifford has replied to my comment on this one: http://www.opencart.com/index.php?route ... h=EU%20VAT

He has asked me to contact him about making it current for a bespoke price. Perhaps you'd be willing to go halves?

All the best

Simon

Hi Madimar

I have seen your extension and I put a comment on it too. I see you replied - to that thank you.

As I said there I do not like to ask the customer if they are:

Private
National Business
International Business

In some cases a private individual can have a VAT number also.

I prefer to have a VAT code box and if they enter a number into it then Open Cart will validate it and the system should work out whether or not to charge VAT based on their location. If they don't enter a VAT number then that's fine as well.

I trust my customers to enter a VAT number if they have one, and to leave it blank if they don't :-)

Thanks

Simon

As discussed, I perfectly understand your point. Regarding private with VAT number, IMHO it is just a matter of terminology. A private customer with VAT number is an individual company.
Anyway it is not that important. With my contribution you can select the category you desire to show and you could maintain two categories : national and international, limiting the impact.
Furthermore I'm thinking about your request and maybe I could be able to satisfy it with a slight modification to the code. I will check and let you know soon.

I confirm I can have that behavior with my module. I can set up a demo site to show you, if you are interested.

HI Madimar .. am looking at your extension for a client of mine as the opencart setup does not work for us. We are based in the UK and when my customers input a UK vat registration number it does not charge them VAT even though it should! Can you confirm the following:
1. UK Customers - even though they input a vat number it will still charge them VAT
2. EU customers with no VAT number - will still charge them VAT
3. EU customer with VAT number - no VAT will be charged
4. Rest of World with no VAT number - no VAT will be charged?

Is so, then this extension is for us!
many thanks
