Product filters on Information page

Hi,

The new product filters in 1.5.5.1 look useful if a little clunky. I've got them assigned working correctly on category pages but I'd like to implement a site wide filter on an Information page. Currently you have to assign filters to individual categories and products. Has anyone attempted this or should I just get myself an extension?
