Order Confirm Button: PayPal Pro Double Click Problem

When “Confirm” button is clicked after entering credit card info at checkout, an order confirmation screen is not received immediately. The transaction "Order Confirmation" page displays only after the Confirm button is clicked a second time. This is leading to customers being double billed on PayPal Payments Pro. I've talked to PayPal at length and they assure me it's not an issue from their end.
Also, tried clean OpenCart install --- but it has the same problem. Have any of you encountered this issue? Can you recommend a fix?
We're using OpenCart 1.5.5.1. Appreciate your help!
UPDATE: We are now using another payment method that works – Chase Paymentech. This extension does not have the double click problem. But, we still need a resolution for PayPal Payment Pro.
P.S. Here's a video of the problem:

Paypal Pro in opencart should already have double click protection in the default theme.

No luck on this one guys. But, thanks for the possible solution, i2Paq. We tested it, but the double click problem still persists.
Any other possible fixes are welcome.

Here's what paypal merchant services told me:
Sorry for the delay, Based on my investigation, this duplicate issue occur because of connection between your server and PayPal server fail which lead the user to double click the button. The cookies been created two times for a single transaction and causes duplicate payment in your transaction. Nothing much we can do for this issue since it’s a connection problem. This issue only appear in your DoDireactPayment and not on the express checkout since it’s my mistake that I didn’t check your website flow. You may ignore the link thing which I told you early. If you still facing the same problem continuously, you may try to check the script and try to test in different server.
We do apologize for any inconvenience..
Sincerely,

I've been experiencing exactly the same issue for over a month but nobody seems to have the answer? See:
http://forum.opencart.com/viewtopic.php ... te#p440862
We're also getting no order confirmation emails though - not sure if you are getting those through?
Can anyone offer any ideas on a solution to this Paypal issue?
Thanks
S.
