It's said that from the landing page to completing checkout, it should be no more than 5 clicks away. (sorry I can't locate citation at the moment).

With opencart, I lost count at 9 clicks...

I'm sure we could trim this down a bit, I'm sure many of the pages could be merged into one page.

I've managed to do this in under 5 clicks, 4 to be exact. However its for donations, so its a donation + checkout on one page.
