I have been looking at shipping extensions for a few weeks never finding one I thought would do this. It could be because of sheer ignorance on my part. I'm pretty new to OpenCart and have usually searched my way through 90% of my issues; the solution to this issue has eluded me. I’m using a clean install of OC version 1.5.4.1. Hopefully someone can suggest an extension/way to do this.

I want to be able to have each product have individual shipping costs based on quantity of said individual product bought. I also need it to add all of those shipping prices together and add as total shipping cost. An option to have a maximum shipping price as well as giving free shipping if an order is over $500 would be nice.

Example:
Product A has quantities of 1-4 cost $16 and quantities 5-8 cost $44; 9 or more $65.
Product B has quantities of 1-4 cost $12 and quantities 5-8 cost $24; 9 or more $40.
Product C has quantities of 1-4 cost $6 and quantities 5-8 cost $14; 9 or more $30.
Customer orders 3 of A, 5 of B, 9 of C. So it would add up all shipping ($70) and make that the total shipping cost.

I would appreciate any suggestions.

Thanks for your time,

Formula-Based Shipping does not have any product associations, but Product-Based Shipping does. It should work for what the original poster described.

Thanks for the responses.

Johnathan, from looking at the Product-Based Shipping Admin demo I haven't figured out how I specifically alter one product individually. Would I need to make several rates and include similar shipping priced products or just a single product per rate? I have many products that have LARGE differences in shipping costs. I have looked at this extension before, and hesitated purchasing because I couldn't figure it out. If you can help me understand it, I will gladly purchase it.

Thanks again

Yes, you would need to create a rate for each product or group of products. One way around this is if you have flat costs per product (e.g. $5.00 per item for Product A and $7.00 per item for Product B). If that's the case, then you could set the cost for each product using it's weight, and then use Product-Based Shipping (or just Weight-Based Shipping) to create a rate that charges $0.01 per 0.01 unit of weight.

This means when the cart contains 2 x Product A + 1 x Product B, the weight would be 17, so it would charge $17.00 in shipping. If you'd like to discuss your set-up further, feel free to contact me at www.getclearthinking.com/contact.
