OpenCart's default theme is beautiful. Blows all the rest out of the water; Magento, PrestaShop, osCommerce.
Only thing for OpenCart's default theme, not all pages are W3C valid.. that's the only thing I think I would change as default. (oh and move the basket/checkout buttons to the cart module on the right rather being in the header)

My I point out that osCommerce is not theme/themplate based so changing the look would mean editing a lot of files or installing a mod.
Hmm.. are you sure about that? I remember trying oscommerce 2.2 back in the day and I was able to try different themes like blue box and stuff. Either way.. its still a retarded design

I take any bet
Maybe you had a "version" from Templatemonster.
My current shop has the default osCommerce look, I just changed the colors as I do not need a fancy design.

Yep, your right, but you loose as this is for osCommerce v3.x, that has just entered its Alpha state.
osCommerce v3.x has indeed a template system where the current stable release, v2.x has not

Personally I like (as someone else mentioned here) the Admin template (sophisticated) as opposed to the front-end colouring. Ultimately as long as the templating system is configurable, fairly simply (css based) and accessible - I believe that "shoppers" for an e-commerce app will browse for templates for the cart if they want something different than the defaul.
Each to their own and thank goodness we have a choice.
My2c worth
PS I actually came here to see what was happening with the proposed release of 1.3.5 - shouldn't this discussion have been somewhere else on the board??

If you know PHP, and a bit about MVC then I think the templates are really easy to modify. So glad they're not using Smarty etc.

As the product matures and the audience grows, I bet we'll be seeing more templates from 3rd party folks. (OC is so young most folks don't even know it exists!)
I agree, the stock template is what pulled me to check out OC at first. Compared to ZenCart, OSecommerce and others, it's a gem.
Would it be great to have more templates to choose from? Absolutely.
Can one customize the template? Yep. Colors are easy. The layout takes more skill for certain. (More than I have.)
Does the standard template suck? No way. But it probably isn't ideal that most of us are using the exact same thing with minor changes. That's not OC's fault.
As the base grows, we'll have more choices.
I'm really happy to have finally found OC after years of dabbling with other ecommerce systems. I look forward to not scrapping my whole store every 5 months, and sticking with OpenCart.

the default theme is fine, though I would really love to see all the inline styles removed.

I'm 100% agreement with this one. The main theme would be much easier to change if all the inline stuff was removed.
I suppose if some community member just did the leg work of pulling it all out to an external file and uploaded it to the community, daniel would likely include it for the future.
Would also be easier to rename and create themes if references to
"view/theme/
default/template..."
were changed to
"view/theme/
<?php echo $this->config->get('config_template');?>/template"
But I guess thats not proper MVC practice

Yup, same question and have you thought, release the mockup of the admin?
