Well, Am a student by profession. But this is what i use when i do some small freelance work (Very Small, Since am not an expert programmer/coder) or experiment.

1) Sublime Text

2) Notepad++

3) Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 Beta 2 (Mostly for my C# Programming & Experiments)

4) Microsoft Expression Studio 3 (Mostly Experiments)

5) Pixlr Firefox Plugin to take Screenshots

6) Gimp, Paint.NET for Graphic Works

7) FTP Tools - I use FileZilla, But i love SmartFTP. Too bad i cannot afford a license right now.

8) Browser Addons: Firefox (No Script, Flashgot, AdBlock Plus, GreaseMonkey and Not to forget the Magical Firebug)

Although Sublime is good, I am with Notepad++ most of the time. UltraEDIT looks good too, But i am yet to try. Also, I use Ad Muncher. Kills almost each and every Ad on the Internet :)

Another vote for Notepad++, it's the only code writing tool I use for HTML, php and css.

HD Search and Stats to find text in files.

Tonight I downloaded Code 66 Recursive Replace after finding Open Cart templates (default one at least) use full directory paths!

Firebug is a godsend.

GIMP and Inkscape for graphics, mostly Inkscape as the export co-ordinates make it really simple to slice designs

Opencart Themes and eCommerce Solutions

Just came across a tool called "grepWin" (not to be confused with WinGrep)
Similar to Agent Ransack, It has a context menu in windows that allows you to right-click on a folder and choose "grepWin" and search for words inside all the files in that folder.

But unlike Agent Ransack, it allows you to globally replace as well. Very handy

java (managed code) can never be faster than C++ (native code). Makes it great for servers but bad for apps. There are too many good c++ editors out there to stop for java... IMHO... and ouch on that filesize.

you are right about java/c++ speed but in this case you don't feel it if you don't have too slow pc. Filesize is 25MB is this too much? I can recomend netbeans it is very comfortable it has debbuger, built in SVN and more good stuff :), a lot of programmers use netbeans so it can't be so bad.

I am not a programmer, so I use quite simple, free tools.

1. Editor: Komodo Edit 5 (free)
I like it. It shows line numbers, it color codes structure, it remembers last position in document (even if you closed the document), and it lets you search across files. Then, of course, it allows several types of coding, understands which language you are using and acts accordingly.
2. FTP client: Filezilla (free)
Good simple client, gets the job done. fairly robust, doesnt drop files often, very easy to use GUI, remembers last connected server, can prefill local directory names....it's good and simple...

I also use Firebug plugin for Firefox for some code checking. Also free.

URL Link checkers, spelling checkers, css/html checkers. Google Webmaster Tools. Most any tools that ensure there are no 404/html/linking problems. Use of spell checking services as misspellings don't help make the sale.

It is not exactly SQL Server enterprise/management studio but it's a start after phpmyadmin.

Also got a demo version of dbForge Studio which also looks useful.

I have used SQl Server far more than MySQL so PhpMyaAmin seemed very naff after Microsoft's Management Studio. Reviews generally suggest that Navicat was the best so I bought it, which was not the best decision I have ever made.

Having now had a really good play with:
