I have tried several times to push a download on the order page to the customer but it doesn't seem to work. It shows they have the extra order, but the downloads is still set to 0. They are allowed 3 downloads. So let's say there's an glitch in the product they downloaded and I want them to be able to get the updated version. I figure I go to the order and select the download product and then add it to the order. Set the quantity to 1 and then price for 0 and hit save. Then I go to the customer account and there is no more downloads added, yet it shows that the order is there.
So I try it again. I add the download to the order again via the admin and still it shows there but no downloads register.

Any solutions for this or is this a bug?

Adding a product doesn't add the downloads at this time.

Thanks Q!
Is there a work around for adding downloadable items to the customers order? I have some items I would like to add to my customers orders as free items for them to download. It seems if I add free items for them to add to their cart, items with no price assigned still want to take the customer to the payment processor/checkout. I figured adding them to their order would be the easiest way around this since it forces them to checkout.

Thanks!

if you enable the free checkout module it will allow them to checkout without going throught the payment processor only if the cart total is $0.00

Will that force all users that even have items to pay for to get free checkout? I wouldn't want to give everything away for free! And some customers may not be eligible for the items I want to push to their account.

well you'll want to test it, but the free checkout is only ever supposed to show up if the cart total is $0.00

Well the items I would be sending carry a value as they are in the cart already. I don't think that free checkout is the correct answer. The correct way to make this work is to allow the Admin to push products to the customers account in the Administration Backend. I like making things convenient for my Customers and to have then have to checkout would not be one. But to have them simply Login to their account and download it would be.
So I'm sure with that said, you will agree that the best way is for the Admin to push the products to the Customer.

Well I found a quick fix for adding downloads once they run out of their tries. Just go to the database and manually edit that Customers order. The file you will want to edit is order_download. The find the Customers order and edit the field, remaining. So this should be able to get anyone by until this feature works in the admin in maybe the next release? wink, hint! lol

I hope it helps some!

+1 request for this feature.

After migrating over from oscmax, I figured this'd be a pretty fundamental feature (I used to use it a lot), and therefore spent quite some time scouring around to try and figure out how to do it. A bit surprised that it's not possible without manually editing the database.
