Responding to the US tariffs on Canadian goods our government has added tariffs on products coming into Canada. So products we buy for pinball games that are made in the USA have an added SIMA (what Rev Can. calls it) tariff of 25%.

I'm wondering if there is an extension that allows one to add temporary fees like this to the cost of a product and show it like a tax - but as a tariff cost. And only certain items that have been purchases since the tariff went into effect - older stock has no tariff cost so I don't want that applied to the customer.

I hope my intent is clear, however rereading the above I'm not so sure - I'll probably edit it later...unless someone says "Here you go XYZ extension is perfect!"

Thanks!

Hello. There was an extension on the Marketplace that applies tax based on the country — wouldn't that be suitable for this?

Thanks, I agree that there are a number of extensions that deal with taxes - however tariffs aren't the same as a tax, they are a cost added to the seller of the product when they import the tariffed product for resale. It is hit and miss too - some products will have a tariff cost up front, others won't. This is more for me setting up the selling price of the product and adding the tariff to those products that need it, and if the field is left blank then it is not added to the product's input cost. Also most tax add-ons are either or - and my store sells in Canada where different provinces/territories, have different tax rates - vs selling a product that has to have tariffs added.
The reason I want to add this on the price with a set base price, is because I expect tariffs to change in the future, and possibly go away. I'd like to have a simple extension that can add one (price) percentage that can be changed/added/removed, and is optional for each product. This way if the tariff cahnge the base price remains the same and we can adjust the tariff accordingly.

You could do this with Category & Product-Based Fee/Discount, but it wouldn't be shown in the product price. The fee would show up on the order when the item was added to the cart. It would let you charge product-based or category-based tariffs based on percentage, though.

Feel free to take a look at the screenshots and demo site, and if you're interested let me know at www.getclearthinking.com/contact if you have any questions.
