there is a chance that one of our entities might need a server cluster

can opencart run in a clustered environment?

would a CDN (content delivery network) be different from a cluster?

anyone have opencart working in a multi-server setup?

any preferred host for this kind of thing?

thanks

I doubt that OC would need or want a server cluster, but it could easily enough sit happily in one place and do its job while its friends seek excitation and balance loads of excitement.

What cloud, cluster, cdn, and some other terms might actually mean depends upon the host, and upon whether the host answers questions. For example, both Amazon and Red Hat have "cloud" lingo down pat; scratch-built lingo (hype and obfuscation, there); redefined common words (no imagination, there); not in Merriam-Webster or Oxford (no medulla or hemisphere processing there) -- you're left to poke and read, so don't bother asking, there is no live person to ask, let alone to hear explain the company-specific asinine lingo. Mark Twain and George Carlin are unfortunately no longer here to do justice to the subject.

As for preferred, probably not a complete "cloud" (a few servers of it being your own) running in ram. A sudden loss of electrons has a sudden consequence, called poof.

That leaves the lesser hardware-based "clouds" involving clusters of several server machines for web, for mail, for database, etc., such that one function can go down alone, and such that load balancing can be distributed for given functions. Those are fairly or at least increasingly common now, certainly among large hosts based Stateside. Dedicated servers with some hosts will NOT readily accommodate what you describe. (Leave out at least two outfits in Arizona.) If power quits a system running on platters, loss is minimal in comparison to one running in ram.

Never underestimate the curiosities of an entity with practicably limitless funds for them. Just try to stay ahead of the questions and decisions.

Hello.

Yes, OpenCart works on Cluster Hosting or a Multi-Server Setup.

You can check ClusterHosting.net.

In general, cluster hosting is significantly more complex, which is why it is more expensive than standard web hosting. It is best suited for the most demanding online store owners who cannot afford any downtime.

For comparison, standard hosting typically offers 99.9% uptime (up to 8 hours downtime in one year) reliability, while cluster hosting can provide up to 99.99% (up to 52 minutes downtime in one year).
