Hi. Bit of a stupid question I think but I set up a cart for a client and he wants to use PayPal as his solution for payment. If clients can login to an account on his store site, does he need an SSL certificate if he isn't taking payments? Does it need to be extended validation? If so, what page does it get applied to or do i need a wildcard??? I also wanted to know if there was some sort of "affiliate" account I can set up for myself to get compensated when I set up PayPal for clients???
Thanks in advance,
Sully
and it doesn't need to be EV in either case.

To add my 2p worth: as a buyer, I don't like sending name, address and password over an unencrypted connection. So if I'm asked to create a password/enter personal details, and I don't see that SSL padlock, I'm off.
That's a personal preference - others may not care as long as they aren't entering payment details. On the other hand, basic SSL certs are cheap.
Also:
- SSL is applied to the entire domain. Opencart automatically applies SSL to the appropriate pages for you: eg, login, checkout, admin. Nice and easy
- Wildcard SSL is used if you are securing a number of subdomains: this is probably unnecessary, if it is a straightforward store on one domain.
- Paypal does have a Merchant Referral system: one of those affiliate type 'if someone clicks and applies, you get paid' things - don't know if that's what you're after.
Not an expert but have done some research on my own account
