Search Category Description Field?

Is it possible to for the Search function to read the text in the Category Description field as well as the product description field?
I have a situation where I have categories that have no products in them, but the category description contains the keywords that need to be found.

In case you're wondering why there are no products, is because in the Category description I have a link to an external site that the customer can go to purchase the product they are looking for instead on my site directly. The link is an affiliate link that I will get a commission from if the customer purchases the product. My site uses a mix of products of that I sell directly, and external affiliate links for downloadable digital software. Because the prices can fluctuate and there are regular promotions, it would be far too difficult to manage all the products. It's far easier in these cases just to refer the customer to the external site and just get a paid for the sale.

Unless there is a better method of creating affiliate links that you can recommend?

You would need to make changes to the search code. You might find it easier to modify the product pages to remove the price and add to cart buttons. You may find extension that to do that.
