Using mail (not smtp) settings.
When a customer gets an email notification of an order or when creating a new account, they get the email but it has the annoying message at the top of the email "Gmail could not verify that it actually came from xxxx.gmail.com". I'm using Mail settings (not SMTP--SMTP settings wouldn't work for some reason).
Any ideas?

Is the admin address you have set in OpenCart a gmail.com address? If so it's probably because your web server IP is not listed under Google's SPF (Sender Policy Framework) records.
Google advice seeds to be to use their SMTP settings.

Looking at some of your other posts. It seems that either your hosting is not configured correctly or they are redirecting outgoing SMTP connections to their own SMTP server.

You could either work with your host to get Google's SMTP setting working or use an email from your stores domain.

I am using English OpenCart 3.0.3.8, Default Template/Theme, php 7.4, Latest Brave Browser (No Ads-Blocker, etc.)
Probably a SPF & DKIM issue. Use and online email deliverability checker such as mail-tester.com, sending the email from OpenCart. This should tell you what is wrong with your email.
