Hello wonderful people,

I am experiencing this problem on mulitple sites. OC 3.0.3.7 and 3.0.3.8.

My Mail Engine is set to "Mail" and I am getting reports that many recipients are not recieving their order email. In some cases, the email can be found in spam, in many others they don't reach the inbox at all. Using the "SMTP" mail setting, the deliverability is good, but I am unable to connect though SMTP using O365 and Titan email accounts - so I'm forced to use "Mail".

Has anybody every experienced similar issues with the Mail setup? Or can shed any light on how to connect to stubborn email clients (Outlook, O365)...

A couple more points:
  • Re the inability to connect to SMTP - I don't believe it's a server setting, as I was able to connect through SMTP prior to emails being hosted elsewhere.
  • Is the "-f" necessary in Mail Parameter? I've tried with and without, doesn't seem to help
  • SPF records are correctly set up
  • I've contacted host company - they are unable to help

Yes it's very common and getting more common.

Have you searched the forum before posting as there are a lot of posts about this?

Can't you use a proper email client, not O365 ?

And use a genuine email account for your domain, should be available from your webhost. Don't email accounts from outlook or gmail for your ecommerce business.

You could also use email services such as SendGrid, Mailjet, Resend, etc. to send out emails from your OpenCart site. They typically have a free-tier pricing plan but you will have to pay if you exceed the free tier limits.

Check out our ever-growing list of extensions for OpenCart here.

And now a days don't forget _dmarc and default_domainkey. They are getting more important, specially for gmail and outlook(hotmail)

I had problems with mail and early this year to mainly Gmail and Outlook account. After entering my Dkim and Dmarc no more problems. In the process I created an additional dmarc email account. And sometimes google is your friend.
The link from paulfeakins is a good guide
