Hello,

I would like to ask why is it possible to add to cart product that is out of stock? Why there is still "add to cart" button and why does it actually adds a product to the shopping cart, when the product is sold out? Only in the shopping cart customers realizes that the product is not actually available and has to remove it from the shopping cart.

Can someone please explain the weird logic behind it to me?

Thanks a lot.

Because shops like mine allow people to order out of stock items. They get to choose if they wish to order an item that is out of stock because 99% of items that are out of stock come back into stock and the order will be filled then.

And what about those who don't want to sell product that is out of stock? Why do they have to still have there add to cart button when it is out of stock?

And actually it is not possible to complete the order when the product is out of stock.

You don't indicate what version of OC you are referring to but in OC1.5.x and 2.3.0.2 at least you can check out when items are out of stock if "stock checkout" is checked as yes.
I don't know about OC4.x because I haven't installed that version yet.
BUT for OC 2 and 3 you could use use an extension to disable the add to cart button: https://www.google.com/search?q=opencar ... t+of+stock

I agree it's an odd design decision, but it's always been this way in OpenCart, so I don't see it changing in the future. Consequently, you need to get an extension if you want to change that functionality.

My Add to Cart Button Switcher extension can block out of stock statuses, and you can choose which specific ones you want to block. It can also hide wishlist/compare buttons, and switch the Add to Cart button to custom text (e.g. "Added!") when the button is clicked.

Feel free to take a look at the screenshots and demo site, and if you're interested let me know at www.getclearthinking.com/contact if you have any questions.
