Like the title says, I seem to get absolutely railed with fake customer accounts for some reason, which somehow are just flying by recaptcha v2 like its not even there. This has been going on for a while but today its gone absolutely bonkers with at least 10 an hour, half of em hitting my mailbox with 'undeliverable mail' welcome messages.
Is it broken, or are there actual human monkeys cranking out accounts on my webshop? Does anyone have any ideas on how to stop it, preferably without throwing a heap of money at it? I read you can toss an IP range into your htaccess, but the registrations seem to be happening a wide range of them.

There are tool available that can bypass or solve CAPTCHAs. The Google reCAPTCHA included in OpenCart has another flaw in that it only has to be passed once per session.
Search this forum, there are lots of discussions on ways to solve the issue.

These days many captchas can be cracked by spambots. We therefore recommend a different approach: SpamBot Buster.
It protects the Contact Us page, as well as other forms, by using an invisible honeypot trap, and by checking for required keyboard/mouse/touch events.
