I'm going to migrate my store from woocommerce to opencart. A bunch of pros and cons information is available about upgrading from V2 to V3. Most of what I read is don't do it. However, I have the opportunity to start fresh. Given where we are today, would you start with V2 or V3.

My current store basics;
Single Language
Two different countries
3,500 orders
3,000 customers
175 products
Would like to integrate to Shipstation or similar

@ JeepSWAG: Whatever you decide on, better get one of the editions from xxvirusxx,
they already contain most fixes, to problems found, since the official release(s) exists.

2.3.0.2 for me. With the right extensions and bug fixes it's a prety solid system.

That goes for any version of any software.

Just post these useless "what is the best..." questions in the off-topic section.

Well, to most, it's probably a major Matter, in order to
make a business-decision of upmost highest importance,
on what to rely, when it comes to a Software, chosen to use.
It's an investent, in any case, time- and/or money-wise. So,
one could really expect this to be handled as such, in a Place
like this, planned and existing only, to be of assistance.

No "out-of-the-box" requirements whatsoever makes this a pure opinion poll request, useless.

Now I like your logo being a not-so-subtle reference to trance music legends Above & Beyond ... but I can't agree with this advice.

It's pretty rare in computer software that not using the latest major release is the right thing to do and I can't see any solid reasons to use 2 instead of 3, but obviously all the disadvantages of extensions not being supported etc. etc. if you invest time and money in a platform that's one whole major release behind.

If you can't give a solid reason not to use 3, then use it.

My two cent for this as well as the above. Using the latest technology, especially due to the evolution of Bootstrap and SASS files integrated in OC, the latest so-called stable release of OC is still a bit behind with these two features. I cannot imagine how further behind are those two important assets out-of-the-box in earlier releases despite the extensions being provided.

Dedication and passion goes to those who are able to push and merge a project.

My humble opinion ..
OC1x actually was great
OC2x front end did look sharper
OC3x I really like twig

They are all great base platforms in their own right and all work pretty much the same and all have pretty much the same little issues .. but for a free platform - there is no room for complaint.

Most of the time - I read developers - like OC2.3.0.2
Personally I will stick with OC3 - not very difficult to convert php to twig for the extensions

Happy Holidays

Not even necessary to convert, because OC 3 DOES support TPL. It was only half-castrated and Template Switcher is the cure.

I'd like to thank those who posted helpful information on this thread. This is a major decision for me and it means a lot. I wish the admins would come in and clean it up though. I've searched and have not found any clear answer to this question. Though it's not clear I've gleaned some good information from some of these posts.

IP_CAM has piqued my interest re the xxvirusxx editions. I understand what they are, but am concerned about the lack of information. What I've found is that xxvirusxx has posted a lot of helpful information on this forum. What I don't see are a lot of posts recommending their editions of Opencart. Anybody else feel as strongly as IP_CAM on this topic. Is using an xxvirusxx edtion a no-brainer or should I have concerns about them?

Most people that come here have already installed opencart ..
xxvirusxx has an offering for specific OC versions ..

Personally I would say yes .. but it all may be a con and he is waiting to attack .. no one knows him personally .. and I suspect he will answer the same if you ask him !
