Hi,

Over 10 years the product list has grown and now we need to trim the fat and get rid of the hundreds of images not used anymore.

What is the best way to do this please

At least, I guess we need a list of all the current products so we don't delete these but what else can we do to get rid of past products.

Thanks

oz

ADD: When one 'Clears' the image from the Data page, does this delete it from the server or just the database

There's a VQMod that kinda does this, you can find it here:

BTW Does disabling an order in the site, delete the image or does it have to be deleted using a mod or ftp manually?

It has to be deleted with the media manager.

Here's what I would do:

1. Export your current product catalogue to a CSV file and store safe in case you need it in the future.
2. Download and strore your images folder in case you need them in the future.
3. Delete all unwanted images via FTP or media manager.
4. Let the store use the deafult no image image for any product that had had its image deleted. Or, upload a new no image image to your liking.
5. Create a cagegory called "No Longer Sold", and put all products that are off sale in there and keep the category and products disabled.

I've had clients ask me to delete products in the past saying they woud never need them again and yes, they end up wanting to want to sell them again. As deleting the product listing doesn't save that much space in the database unless you have 50000 listings it's worth keeping them on the site albeit disabled for any unforseen future need.

All IMO but that approach works for me. :)
