Which OpenCart version is most stable?

Hi Everyone

I see this thread is abit old, since June 2018, just want to find out if there has been any change in opinions to what is posted here above?

Lol i mean, the best version to decide on regarding security & being stable, also not being too out of date for future releases and lastly the most (well not necessarily most but best) plugins whether free or premium.

I'm deciding to go with OC V 2.3.0.2 as i even read majority have said its the most secure & stable etc.

I recently have installed V 3.0.3.1 and i was just busy installing modules and it was working just fine, then i was on my way to go change some twig code for the theme, i didn't even enter any code yet and I was kicked out of my admin for some reason i don't know & now my website and admin is showing a HTTP ERROR 500, I've had a look myself and also asked my hosting provider to try and solve it but with no luck, now i have to redo everything.

I have no idea what went wrong, just don't want to go through this ordeal again when i decide on another OC version

Well, not really, it's basically still the same. The unfortunate Nut's still keep on
upgrading, while expecting more sales this way, just by using a new Version,
with still the old familiar face No wonder, most of them never make it ...

And many probably never understud, that TWIG has NOT been implemented,
to make 'basic' things easier, better, or even faster. The real reason was rather,
to attract a new bread of Dev's, and Users, eager to 'have' different ways of
'doing things', by use of a 'standardized' Interface and Code, kind of.

But TWIG sure does not add to OC overall performance either, in contrary,
it requires a lot of additional Code, and, by all Logics, such usually does not
have a positive effect on software performance.

OC-3 should have been switchable, from it's first Version. To allow users
to either use OcMod or VqMod, and use PHP or TWIG based Themes.
It would have made a great difference, for everybody, and many problems
would not even exist.

FREE Choice, instead of offering a (free! ) Box of new Secrets, would
have been a much much successful way, from a 'Marketeer' Point of View
at least. But Coders have usually not much 'Seller' Talent, and even
less 'Feelings' for USER Expectations, that's a known Fact as well.

And as long as DEV's are free, to develop, whatever they like to, it's even
much more important, to have such Install-Options already built-in.
Many great Ideas never made it at the end, likely by over-estimating
'regular User' Talent and Knowledge, or under-estimating the potential
damage, done by negative publicity.

Even the Car Industry had such Problems, when using Test Drivers,
coming out the the Pro 'Car-Rally' Scene, just looking for Limits and Fun,
but sure not 'minor scratches' ...

But, as you can see here, it still takes a lot of postings, to eventually find
and solve some problems. I would therefore better wait, and use, what
already works. Visitors won't see a difference anyway ...

Thanks for the honest response, yeah i will rather wait for the Ferrari in OC to come out, or i will learn the ins & outs of OC and code the Ferrari OC with all the looks of 3, all the variety of 2 & all the security & stability of 1. Having a option for each different feature and being able to support al 3 versions's extensions having many "if's" & "else's" to indicate in which folder the OCmod will stash the files.
And then OC Ferrari will read all 3 versions & mash it all up into one output of pure awesomeness... I doesn't hurt anyone to dream a-bit, i'm still going to try it though!

@slingshot I have checked the error log and removed the files from my server causing the problems also removing the line of code for those files but i didn't manage to succeed, i decided to start fresh OC with V2.3.0.2 , atleast i know how & what i want in my site now, also will make a change to daily auto backup my site.

In fact, almost everything remained as before, with some changes, I even сompare and synchronize SQL Server database schemas and, frankly, got similar results.

Hard to guess, especially under the Aspect, that PHP v.8.0 is just around the
next corner, most likely requiring some OC's to be 'adapted' again, to meet
latest PHP Requirements. One therefore should only select an OC-Version,
capable to at least 'handle' the last PHP v.7.4.13 at present, just to make
sure, to have a security- supported PHP Version at least until the end of 2022.
Lucky me, the OC-Oldie-Version I use works nicely, in contrary to some
later OC-Editions, but I am not familiar with details, so, better check around,
to find out, what other OC Version will be capable of handling PHP 7.4.13 too.
