Still trying to understand layouts... please help

Hi all.... I am so confused... very close in grasping this but still struggling... so any help would be welcome.

I understand that the home layout is the initial layout used to display the first stor page.
So what I did was renamed the home layout to home3
and created a new layout called home

however when i launch the original home layout still launched...

why???? and how do i ensure i use the new layout instead???

The layout the page uses is determined by its "route". The route of the home page is "common/home", so whatever Layout is assigned that route will control it. If multiple layouts have that route, then only one of them will be used --- make sure you only assign a route to a single layout, so that doesn't happen.
