I have several very large items that must ship with freight trucks, for this we wish to use a flat rate shipping,
however I also have many small parts that are shipped by weight base shipping.
the problem is the flat rate is listed in ALL items which means, if I dont put a flat rate price in the small package products, the flat rate shipping will be listed at $0.
I ONLY want the flat rate to be displayed for the specific heavy weight items we need to ship.
Basically if I enter a flat rate $$ on a product it should trump weight based.
However if NO flat rate $ is entered flat rate should not be displayed on check out.
How do I solve this problem.

Products in OpenCart don't have a shipping cost in their data, so you must be using some type of mod for that. Since shipping methods in OpenCart do not affect one another, you'd need to probably hire someone to write a customization for both your flat rate and weight-based shipping extensions, and get them to communicate with one another. If you need to find a developer, you should post a request in the OpenCart "Commercial Support" forum, which is checked by a number of OpenCart developers. You can also try checking out the OpenCart "Partners" area.

Another option would be to use my Category & Product-Based Shipping extension for both types of costs, and you can then use that to determine when each one displays. Note that it will NOT read your current flat rate costs for products (because that's a modification to OpenCart, not a normal part of an installation) so you'd need to set up your flat rate costs for each product within the extension. Depending on how many products you have, that may take a lot of work, in which case you could get Ultimate Shipping, which *could* read the product flat rate cost (as long as it was within the "product" table). You can see a few examples of setups here, to give you an idea of how the extension works:

• ... d-shipping

Feel free to take a look at the screenshots and demo site, and if you're interested let me know at if you have any further questions.
