Hi all,

I'm starting a new project, an e-commerce website that has about 2-3 million products.

A quick rundown on the specs are
  • 1) Products have 2 photographs.
    2) Products have around 3-8 categories, 2-3 Specification attributes
    3) The searchable description for each product has around 2000 chars.
You should be able to search within one or more categories.

Any suggestions ? My budget for running this is around 250-300$ per month. I have access to a Solr Server,

If you have any links to websites with a large volume of products and you know the system setup + backend specs, please share.

you do NOT really expect other LARGE-VOLUME-Online Dealers to share their hard-earned Knowledge with you ?! ::)

And I cannot imagine, how you plan, to add 2 - 3 Million Products, with a budget if 250-300$ per month, because this will be a full-time Job for several Persons, and a few months of hard work, I assume. And you will need a powerfull Server for such, and this itself will add about 50 Bucks per month, just to have the Shop working on a solid Bases.

So, better publish such in the commercial Section of this Place here, because many DEV's around this place do not read the 'open' Sections on a regular scale.
Good Luck ! ;)

Smart Search Pro has Fulltext searching, though I haven't tested it on a database that large. The largest demo database I have is 200,000 products, which you can test out here:

http://smartsearch.getclearthinking.com ... uct/search

If you wanted to purchase it and test it on your installation, I'd be fine giving you a refund if the speed of finding results is not within reasonable limits (i.e. a few seconds within your normal page loading time), and I can't improve it all by looking at your server and database. Feel free to take a look at the screenshots and demo site, and if you're interested let me know at www.getclearthinking.com/contact if you have any further questions.
