So we thought using a new webhost for our sites would be a nice thing to do, so we went for the A2Hosting as advertised on the OpenCart forum. Big mistake. New account was set up. We were using the hosting located in Amsterdam. It's DB connection for our site never worked. The A2Hosting tech support is very slow to respond, it took them hours first time, and a day later problem still not solved. In addition, we got 502 Bad Gateway errors when trying to access the A2Hosting client portal. Not a good sign!

Which is why, looking on Google for hosting reviews is a good strategy without the hope to land on agencies boosting those results.

- Ask questions to the hosting company!
- Are the requirements fitting to what you're looking for - such as the delivered hosting plans? !
- Are other people experiencing great results with their services based on Social Media and Google results? !
- Are the web site analyzers reporting good results about that hostname or it is rather about the usual and so called / left-overed company? !

Dedication and passion goes to those who are able to push and merge a project.

Thanks for posting this info. It seems Opencart hasn't picked the best 'sponsored hosting' lately. I have read a lot of the problems here with Arvixe too.

Try to be fair to A2Hosting -- you might have an unusual setup, or they might be under DoS attack, or there is some legitimate excuse for the results. At least let us know if things eventually got resolved satisfactorily. And don't forget that anything incoming to them under your domain name could take up to a few days to work consistently, until the DNS system is fully updated and settles down. Some people are very quick to start screaming bloody murder if things don't instantly work perfectly -- I hope that's not the case here. At least give us all the facts as they become available.

Well, it might depend on the meaning of Best, for many, the Cheapest is
likely the best, and most are usually not familiar with technical details, and
so unable to judge in the first place.

And to search on the Web, to find useful Answers, is not of much use either,
since most all Sites only show more or less the same 'sponsored' Results. But
who else of those, familiar wich such, would care, to test a range of paid Hosters,
just to tell others, for free, wich one's to avoid. :P
Just about similar to here too ... ::)
---
But I also needed to move up, a couple of times, to finally end up at the Top,
instead of further using cheaper Resellers. And since then, I never run into
a single problem anymore, and this without the need, to swich to Dedicated,
just to get a decent Performance Result as well.

And despite of beeing a hardcore-tester, trying all kinds of childish things, neither
a DB did ever 'go away', nor did I ever receive a Warning, that I could risk, to further
be served, if I continue to play around with obviously unfamiliar Software. :D
They only told me once, to get rid of some giant amount of cached images, seemengly
no longer beeing used for a very long time. Newbie-Errors, by steady changing subs

My Sites run on a shared IP, among quite a bunch :choke: of other Sites, but according to
frequent Tests, without feeling much pain, because of this, on my ~30 (out of 50 max.)
active Sites. And even free https is included, if I'm eventually ready with
everything else. For CHF 14.90 per month, (~15 US-$), to me, it's a real bargain,
and painless to use. Up to the ability, to widely have control over Server Settings!

And it's fully in Swiss Control, and serving BigShots like SwissPost-Finance, MIGROS
one of the two big Swiss Retailers, among other highly security-oriented Organisations.
So, for me, that's enough, to make me feel secure. And so far, it has been the case.
But better don't look at it as a cheapy advertisement, I'll get nothing out of it ... ;)
Ernie
PS. And if one can settle with max. 10 Domains and 50 Gig's, it's even cheaper
