Duplicate "Manufacturers" - any possible problems?

I just want to have "Manufacturers" duplicated.

The basic "Manufacturer" I use simply for manufacturers but I need something like this for other purposes as for example book authors or other things.

The idea would be simply to duplicate all files in the admin and catalog which refer to manufacturers and rename them as "manufacturers2" or "author" or anything.
Then to find any other code which refer to manufacturers and duplicate it and rename in a proper way.

Would this work?

Yes, I need them. If I did not need them I would simple rename it to anything I want.

Well, there is software to lookup words or expressions within all files and folders you want at once, if that helps.
