SyntaxError: JSON.parse: unexpected character at line 1 colu

Go to system>settings>edit>mail

I can't get the email notifications to work so it could be a problem with how I setup the mail settings but changing from smtp to mail fixed this issue for me and so did removing it completely.

I think that when you make a new order it will try and send an email to you and then fail because it is setup wrong and setting it to "mail" disables that but I still don't get the email notification. So maybe look into how to correctly setup mail alerts.

will post if I find a fix for the mail alerts.

I am getting a similar error when I try to send a marketing email:

SyntaxError: JSON.parse: unexpected character at line 1 column 1 of the JSON data

Steps to reproduce:

1. In the admin Dashboard, click Marketing > Mail
2. In the Customer drop-down, select Customer
3. Enter any customer's name
4. Enter any Subject and any Message, then click the Send button

I then get the SyntaxError.

Version 2.3.0.2

I urgently need this to work, so that I can send my marketing emails. Thanks in advance for a solution!

In my case,
When I add new product and goto that product page on shop not in admin I was having the same error on products page.
I have installed third party module (ajax live options) and activated on product layout and that was causing the problem

For me the solution was on html file. My telephone field on form was with <input type="tel">, i changed to <input type="text" and solve the problem :|

I experienced a similar problem and solved it simply (after one week headache).
It was arising from an image-name which involved a non standart character
