Hello, Folks
I'm having a issue and hoping someone can help me out. I just uploaded the "Upload file" to my server and now im on the pre installation page where it shows status with a green checked circles and on the bottom of the page where it says writable and unwritable....well next to the /home/antiques/public_html/store/image/cache/ it says unwritable. OpenCart tells me I need to make that writable in order for my store to work. Im using hostgator for the server...so how do I change the /home/antiques/public_html/store/image/cache/ to writable. Feel free to email me at

Using any FTP program to login to your host. Right click on the folder and choose "chmod" or "permissions" or something along those lines and change to 755

Thank You for your response, but im having a little problem finding "chmod" or permission. The Ftb program that im using is FileZilla. When I right click on the folder the only options it gives me are as follows: Upload, Add files to queue, Enter directory, Open, Create directory, Refresh, Delete and rename. Thats all it gives me. So any other help would be appreciated.

Hello, I fiqured out where the file permissions are...I right clicked on the folder and went to file permssions and check all the boxes where it says "read" "write" and "excute" I check all 9 boxes and clicked ok. Now when I go to my store it is now giving me an error message Saying 500 Internal Server Error. So any help on fixing this issue would be appreciated. Thank you again for your help.

I said 755. not 777 There should be a numerical legend that changes as you check boxes

Should I delete all the files that I uploaded to the server....then re upload the same files. Then go to the folder that needs to be "chmod" then type in 755 again. Or are there any other suggestions.

This is the only way. This is how it works on every system. I use hostgator and this is exactly how it works.

I'm trying to install 1.4.9.5 on arvixe host.

I uploaded the installation zip, then extracted it directly on the server, then moved the upload folder to the root folder. So permissions should have been identical to whatever they were in the zip file.

Step 2 says everything is a go, and all folders writable.

I click next, nothing happens for 5 minutes.. then 500 internal server error...

tried again on a different host, this time did not even attempt to move the upload folder. Same problem.

xampp works fine... so there's something w/ the hosts..

I then manually checked the permission, and saw that admin/config.php was at 0644 I changed it to 0755 and tried again... still won't go to step 3.
