Good Morning!
I am trying to change the sort order of several sub categories that lie under a single parent category. Whenever I change them they all automatically revert to the same sort order number as that of the parent category ergo I am unable to change the order of them.
Is there way round this?
It works fine i tested on 2.x version.

I tested on 1.5.6.4 version.
it works fine sub category are called based on sort order only

Please click on edit of those categories which you are checking.
On list page it will show of parent category but internally they have changed.

Yes, you are correct, I know it shows the correct sort order when I open the actual sub category but it has not in fact sorted them in that order.
Yes on admin category list page it does not.
In front end , under menu it does.

Working fine. May be you are using some custom modules for menu or customized theme
