Paypal Standard - no debit card option

Only gives users option to either login to paypal or to create a paypal account? Is this correct? How can users pay with credit cards etc using paypal?

You don't need to use PayPal Express -- the regular PayPal standard has this option as well. It's just that you may not see if it there's a PayPal account cookie on your browser, because it sometimes then disables the credit card option (assuming you want to use your PayPal account). Clearing your browser cookies should allow you to see the credit card option in OpenCart, as long as you've set your PayPal account to allow the use of credit cards.

So what's the difference between standard and express?

Standard takes the customer through the regular checkout process, and at the Confirm stage, redirects them to the PayPal site. They then pay on PayPal's site, and when it's complete they're taken back to OpenCart and shown a "Success" page.

Express redirects the customer to PayPal first, getting the customer's PayPal information up front. After approving the payment, the customer then completes the checkout process, and the payment is made.

Overall there's no much difference in functionality, except when the customer approves/makes the payment. I believe both have the same options to use credit cards or a PayPal account.
