Regarding paid plugins and gpl license, can I include a plugin in the sale of my theme as long as I leave the copyright in tact?

Usually not, paid Mod's mostly contain an license information, but you you always contact the Seller first, to make sure, you have a written approval.

But if the core (OC) code is GNU GPL then any plugin that uses or communicates with the code has to also be used in accordance with GPL, this is my understanding from reading the license. Also GPL software can be re-sold providing the original copyright is kept in tact and modifications are clearly stated. Isn't that the point of OC and others like WP, so developers can sell complete website services to the public?
