General Question re templates & opencart upgrades

Hi this is sort of a general question

I have a bought template for our company store with opencart.

It was bought & installed on v 5,5.1 opencart

It says this template is only compatible with this version of opencart.

I would like to upgrade opencart - does any one have any advice on what we should do about our template ?

Should I try & upgrade anyway ?
Should I try & upgrade the template so it works ? & how do I ensure it works in future ?
Should I try & create my own template & how hard or easy is that ?

Upgrading to the lastest 1.5 version (which is 1.5.6) shouldnt be too painfull. I guess you would need to do only minor changes to the template.

But if you are planning to upgrade to 2.0 forget about it. You need new template.

As for making a template by yourself it all depends on your skills

I used to teach HTML, XML, ASP, Javascript & CSS but didn't ever really get heavily into PHP code.
I can read it & I understand pretty much what goes on but not sure how much I want to get into it now !!

Sounds like for now it's best to stick with what we have
