Was wondering what someone does to improve the efficiency of a large db? We adjusted settings on the server side with ini.settings, tweaked the server itself to increase max connections, installed all optimizing modules (true disable product count, cache, db indexer, etc)

However, we are still running into some issues with the database at times. We're also planning to migrate the server our own custom built SSD but was told that eventually we will still run into issues as the database continues to grow. It's approximately 1gb of db at the moment. Any suggestions will be greatful

Using an SSD, you will take a good chance to ruin it soon, because SSD's are not (yet) ready for such, beeing w/r accessed uncountable times, on a daily scale, even less on a Pro Shop with heavy traffic.

If I would have a 1gb-DB in use, I would depend on a fixed-IP Raid-based server, built to host my Site only, nothing else. At least, if you expect Performance.
In addition to this, I would remove everything, never used, from the DB, i.E. Countries, Zones.

it's just a few thousend lines, but still, a few thousand more... ;)

Regarding your true product count remover Mod, I don't know it, so, I can't tell, but, still, try this here,
in all of the Mod's found, I found NO true removal of counting, it mostly was just a removal of displaying the numbers, counting still was done. Therefore, 'cache' the counting, where it begins, regardless of displaying results or not.

appreciate the response. I will take into consideration and try switching from SSD to your suggestion. I actually wanted to find a way to archive data but haven't been able to find anyone who has attempted this.

I read the post you created and might be something worthwhile. Also, was looking into some of the other threads that you were posting in coincidentally. :)
