Agreed, these are the best official release points for reference

If you want the absolute latest version, clone or download the zip archive from master - but some things may be in development and should be considered unstable

Not related to the core.
You have to ask the template vendor or who did the template pav_decor.

And why no announcement - even not in the internal forum??

Marketing has already been planned with the announcement of beta via newsletter, blog, forum etc - all to be done at the same time.

It may have the letter 'b' in the version number, but I wouldn't call it a beta-release yet. There are still too many changes and bugfixes to come, though we are getting there.

Planned .. but not released.

And if this should be a 'beta' from now on, no new features has to be build in, no core changes, etc.
Only bugfixes.

Correct?

Hi everyone,

I know that many of you don't like this question, but is there any news about the release date of OC 2.0 ?

We are waiting for the OC 2.0 since December 2013... it's quite long now

OC 2.0 is approaching the beta-release stage (it is not quite yet there IMHO). Once the beta-release is available, it will have to undergo a thorough testing stage involving many beta-testers/users to wipe out any remaining potential bugs before the final public stable release. I don't think OC 2.0 will be ready for usage on live stores until early next year.

You can follow the progress on https://github.com/opencart/opencart

Totally agree with JNeuhoff, though it was scheduled to be released on the 8th of this month apparently. To be honest, you'd be better off just starting your store with either the current release and using vqmod/ocmod/override engine for all customisations, so that you can update when the final version is released. Or even use the 1.5.X releases as they're going to be far more stable and have plenty more mods to choose from

So guys just to update about 2.0 etc....

I've spent the last week with Daniel in HK going over what/when/how/who etc.

The main reasons for the delay is this time round, so much testing has been done, bugs found, fixed, changes (for the better most of the time etc). I had hoped that the OFFICIAL Beta would be released today (9am GMT) but last minute tests have founds more kinks that needed to be sorted. As I mentioned/promised from the start, we wanted it to be as stable as possible right from release and since so many changes have taken place it has been a bit of a struggle with resources. 2.0 has already had A LOT of you (thanks BTW) helping out on the bug tracker, reporting, testing and offering pull requests.

I'm not going into too much detail in this thread as a new one will be up shortly about the changes and plans for 2.0 and then 2.1.

The short of it is that I will be maintaining 1.5.6.x for at least another 6 months for bugs, may be longer - NO new features or API changes though. After that it will be EOL and replaced by 2.0 (although any serious issues *may* still get a bug fix version - but they should in theory be rare now). 1.5.6.5 will be release very soon - although no changes to modules should be needed and will be announced so you can update your extension filters in the store. I would advise checking the changelog as there is a few fixes in that release. I know that most of us will still be using 1.5.6 for quite some time until the transition to 2.0 is stable which is why I have agreed with Daniel to maintain it longer at the same time.

Feel free to PM me with any questions directly.

J

James, does this mean that 2.0 won't be released for another 6 months?

LOL, no! 2.0 will be out in rc/beta asap, 7 days later hopefully the official release so yeah your modules should be ready to go asap.

The idea / decision behind maintaining 1.5.6.x is that most of all developers know it is stable, prefer to work with it for now and will take a while to transition. So think of it more as an option of either using a stable 1.5.6 or a fancy new 2.0 on new projects, we just don't see the point in forcing people on a brand new system all of a sudden (with less modules, possibly less stable etc)

Hope that is a bit clearer for everyone?
