I suspect this is here but i can't see it.
I want to have a fixed price for shipping say £2.00 per item for example which will increase based on the number of products put in the shopping cart up to a given amount when shipping would either become free or the price could stop increasing.
Any suggestions please?

this is correct. But before uploading, make sure, it won't 'overwrite' existing Files (using the same file name+ending) on the server. If it would, just rename the 'original' File on the server first, to make sure, you can 'undoo' it, in case, something 'breaks'.
Also, make sure that no files exist in the Mod, looking like >> .gitignore << or similar, other names as well, carrying a DOT (.) before the file name and no 'extension' ( as usual in regular files like >> filename.tpl -filename.php - or whatever.<<). They are good for nothing, usually...

You can also use the built-in Weight Based Shipping for this. Just make each item weight 1 unit, and then set your rate like this:

1:2.00, 2:4.00, 3:6.00, etc., 10:0.00

That would give free shipping at 10 items. If you need a more powerful quantity-based extension, take a look at Item-Based Shipping or Formula-Based Shipping.
