I am new to any kind of shopping cart and I've been using the demo for opencart and really like it. Before I do install this I would like to know if the following is possible.

The products that will be sold are a service/product only the customer can get done/fitted to their vehicle, there will be no options for shipping. There are around 40 locations the customer can choose from, is it possible to add these to the shipping part of the checkout before payment is made?

If this many options can't be added does anyone know how this could be done, could an additional page be setup once the customer clicks checkout, which will allow them to choose their desired location?

Hopefully this is possible.

Thanks

Some options:

1. Add 40 "free shipping" options by using Weight Based Shipping and duplicated geo zones, but they would show as radio buttons, and not a dropdown. You could also use Multi Flat Rate Shipping for this if you didn't want to duplicate geo zones.

2. Mark all products as "Requires Shipping: No" to skip the shipping step. Then use the Comments box to have the customer enter the location.

3. Mark all products as "Requires Shipping: No" to skip the shipping step. Then use Checkout Survey to set up your own question to ask during checkout about which location they want to use.

Hi, sorry for the late reply.

That's a very helpful post, thanks. I have since installed Open Cart to have a play around with it so I'll try options 1 and 2 to see how they could work. The website has a map of locations so is it possible to create a link to this that will open in a new tab and place it where the comments box is? Then when a location is clicked on it'll paste the address into the comments box or is that not going to be possible? It's Google maps BTW.

I suspect it can be done but will be alot of work so maybe having the map open and then having a list of the locations on the shipping step would be easier.

It's certainly *possible* to use a map of locations like that, but it wouldn't be possible in a default installation. You'd need to hire someone to write that kind of modification for you. Given that it would be a nice feature, but is not absolutely necessary functionally, I would say it's not worth it until you're up and running and profitable.
