And another problem now
Uploaded file is not a valid spreadsheet file or its values are not in the expected formats!
I have OC 1.5.6.1 and E/I 17 and I downloaded a spreadsheet no problem. I even used OpenOffice as suggested. I added some products to the spreadsheet and tried to re-upload. But I got the error. I changed nothing else. I added the products by copy & pasting data from an older version of E/I from my 1.4.9 store.

Also when you save an OpenOffice document .ods you can't save it as an xlsx file so you can't import it again. So using OpenOffice seems pointless?

This is driving me crazy ???

TAC: At the danger of repeating myself (because people simply don't get it): Check the error logs, especially OpenCart's system/logs/error.txt which which tell you exactly what worksheet header is wrong, Also, you can use OpenOffice or LibreOffice and save your file in ODS, the Import supports ODS, XLS and XLSX formats.

Thanks JNeuhoff,

If a lot of us aren't getting it then it can't be that simple ;)

I tried .ods with no luck.

Here are my errors from Admin:

I can see "Invalid header in the Categories" and "an illegal character in input string" but how I work out exactly where to find these in the spreadsheet is not something I am seeing :(

I have not changed any headers on the Categories tab either, just downloaded it, added things to the products tab and then had the issues described above.

Unless it is the column Categories in the products tab? Checked that and the Categories header is "categories". Still stumped :(

TAC: 2 things to do:

1) Increase your memory_limit PHP setting, 256M is simply not enough in your case, it clearly says so in the error messages

2) Fix your header line in the 'Categories' worksheet, just copy the header line from a freshly exported spreadsheet file.

Thanks again,

1) changed this from 64M to 1024M in both the php.ini files
2) Had already done that

Still get "Uploaded file is not a valid spreadsheet file or its values are not in the expected formats!" in the admin. Logs show "Invalid header in the Categories" still

Spreadsheet is called backup_categories_products.ods

I exported another version and this is in the category header

This doesn't look right?

I changed it manually to status enabled and it still didn't work

TAC,
Your headers do not look right but they do look like the problem I had before! It happens to me when I use openoffice.
If you see my post: http://forum.opencart.com/viewtopic.php ... at#p467493
you'll see that I had the same problem.
Using MS Excel fixed the duplicating headers BUT then I ran into another problem. MSExcel truncates the product description field so my product descriptions get cut off around 255 characters!
To test my theory, do a download, open it in openoffice and see if you have the duplicated headers.
Then if you do, open the same file (unsaved, unedited) with MSExcel and see if they are duplicated. I bet they are not.

IF they are not duplicated then we are the only two I know of who have ran across this issue but I don't have a fix EXCEPT to copy the headers as JNeuhoff indicated, make sure you get them all that are duplicated.

(Since I wrote my posting, that I linked above) I found it wasn't caused by anything except when I used openoffice, not something else as I guessed in that post....)

Thanks Mike but I have already tried every combination of OpenOffice and Excel I can think of.

Downloaded in both, edited both, tried to import both.
Downloaded in OO, copied products to Excel version, which appears to have correct headers, tried to import as Excel.
Downloaded in Ex, copied products in from the OO file, tried to import.
And so on, spent hours on it yesterday....

Can export to Excel and OO no problem, neither will import. Checked headers, copy & pasted correct ones onto wrong ones, manually edited wrong ones, still get the error :(

TAC,

I had same problem you mentioned in post http://forum.opencart.com/viewtopic.php ... 60#p494315

Was able to get around it by using LibreOffice to edit file and saves as type 'Microsoft Excel 97/2000/XP/2003 (.xls)'.

Hi,

I've been using the Export/Import tool fine for a while but I've now noticed some odd behaviour with product options.

I have one option that gets duplicated after running an import. The option has 6 possible values. Some products have 4 of those values, a, c, c and d. Others have 2 of those values, e and f.

For some reason, the option gets created twice in the database, once with all 6 options and another with just two of the values.

Has anyone seen this before?

Thanks,

Andrew

Hi,

This extension is working perfectly on our store, an absolute god send :) Just one question, do you know if the import export tool will work with this extension: http://www.opencart.com/index.php?route ... rch=remote

Thanks for your time.

Depends on whether there are underlying changes (e.g. new fields) done to the database.

@Mike I also emptied my vqmod cache and still get the double header titles.

I read the stuff about messing with the db but I don't want to start doing with that. I need a mod without such complications :)

Guys - do your importing and exporting - directly from your phpmyadmin - just did a 34,000 sku upload not one error.

For get using extra memory setting - upto a 1gb ??? c'mon - really !

Use cvs files looking into phpmyadmin download the sample info that is there when you do a fresh install and you will get to see how the headers are set up and how the info needs to be entered.

The excel files are overloading the system and are just full of bugs. The database uses CSV why use excel files.

Well looking at the screenshot of the extension it does create a URL field, not sure if your import export tool will capture that in the xl file. ???

@rawmeattt I thought that sounded like a good idea so I downloaded my db as a csv file but found the layout probably too confusing to replicate for new products :(

Others may not find it complicated of course :)

hi, the product section in the db is 13 files - not all are used. so if you download everything for the products then you will end-up with these 13 files on just one file. In that file you will end-up with 13 sections in length divided by headers.

So you make a master file (with all the headers in just one line) of this in excel as a csv file and then you place all your info there. You can then use your downloaded file just for a reference. Then you cut and paste the columns and save as files for each section. Then you upload 13 separate files, it takes just split seconds or less.

If there is an error and it tells you straight, error in line 50 or error in headers because you may have one extra or missing column. You don't have to email anyone because its easy.

Same thing for manufacturers and categories. I understand that it looks intimidating and it did to me at first as well.

You have to look at the phpmyadmin as the ultimate extension - then you will see its very basic and simplistic- you can erase and update fix things at will . Don't be scared to make a mess of it -you can just reload the startup database and start from something fresh.

trying to to upload everything - products, categories, manufacturers(not there), additional images, options, attributes, specials and discounts and reward -All in one file and then wonder what is wrong with the upload .NOT GOOD

Back to this import export thing - ever since my first battles with these very bad import/export tools I start using the database directly - its actually inexcusable and I am being polite. Anyone defending these extensions is laughing at all us users, anyone that keeps telling us to increase php memory to a 1gb is laughing at us. Trying to learn to deal with each extension free or purchased and all those bugs is an insult to the cart industry. I have never used excel files to upload to a database. I am not a coder, I am a user and I think these coders should go out and use the import and export features from other cart and copy the logic -yes copy the logic. I will again mention Pinnacle cart because there are no issues on their boards about importing or exporting - because it works and is a non issue. If they did not go to the pay by month type of sale, I would have kept buying more licenses. As for Opencart this cart is great in itself and almost all extensions I purchased I am totally pleased with but not the import export extensions - these functions should be part of the basic cart and not offered as an extension. Not doing this will turn off users and cost more in lost extension sales in the future.

ah now I feel better...

@JNeuhoff : a way of bypassing upload limits on shared hosts would be to allow direct upload (via FTP) and to allow the extension to work from a local file. Memory limits would still be annoying.

I've just tried to do a Product Filter import and my filter items have appeared as attributes. Does the filter import work?

They appear correctly when I export the spreadsheet, but if I update them and try to reimport, they appear as attributes. Is this a bug?

Our free Export/Import does not support product filters, so you wouldn't even be able to import them, nor export them.

Export/Import Tool * SpamBot Buster * Unused Images Manager * Instant Option Price Calculator * Number Option * Google Tag Manager * Survey Plus * OpenTwig

Does that mean that there's a paid for version that does? The filters definitely export.
