96 DPI images return error_filetype in Image Manager

Version 1.5.6.3
Summary
I was pulling my hears out and grinding my teeth on the dis-functional Image Manager on OC 1.5.6.2. While still grinding my teeth suddenly the 1.5.6.3 release was there, which resolved my issues.
Now I'm having a new issue. Uploading 72DPI jpeg images is working, but 96DPI jpeg images always give an alert saying "error_filetype".
I have checked error logs and server logs but I find no evidence of a memory problem. So I guess the problem is in OC.

I cannot tell a customer to just convert ALL his images, nor will I do it for a costumer. This is something that simply should work.

This issue breaks of to a child issue that the error message is wrong as well, but I'm not filing a report about that now.

Use case 1
- Upload a 72DPI JPEG image with the Image Manager

Expected Result:
Image is uploaded and displays in Image Manager

Actual Result:
Image is uploaded and displays in Image Manager

Use case 2
- Upload a 96DPI JPEG image with the Image Manager

Expected Result:
Image is uploaded and displays in Image Manager

Actual Result:
JavaScript alert thrown with the message "error_filetype"

I get the same error but in my case even 72dpi images get this error. Sometimes first image upload works OK and then any further uploads result in the error_filetype error Then, a few hrs later, again first upload OK and the rest fail.
Using OC 1.5.6.3 as well.

Anyone has got a fix for this?

I have the same issue on a new install. I managed to upload 3 images and then I get error_filetype on any file size or file type. It's very frustrating

I am also having this issue. can't upload ANY file at all. I am just trying to upload jpg files and keep getting file_error type. Please help!!
