I would like to super impose or layer above another image.
In this example (not built in opencart) the big black paw urn is placed over the lower right side of the header image...

How would I go about building something like that in opencart... an image the is super imposed over a slider or image.

That is a good question...this is when I wish I knew more about php and tpls.
I looked at your referenced site to see if you could follow what they did, but it doesn't use divs and it doesn't look like its in php, so their formatting is not much help. They have used a series of individual images layered to create one image - have you thought of doing something similar with your header whereby your could increase the size of your header, insert your image, and then add a background image below your logo and behind your image to finish off the effect? I don't know what the overall effect is that you are in the process of creating, but this could be very eye-catching.

In case this is of any help at this point, I think that if you insert your image into the body and set its top position or top margin to a negative number, it will float outside the body div so that it resides over both the body and the header.

No the site I referenced isn't php , I built it in a program called Antenna web-design a breeze to build brochure sites with but not ecommerce.
