Our store sells materials for Traditional American Indian cultural crafts. Some of the items that are in our brick-and-mortar store have specific shipping restrictions that are controlled by both US law and international law. Our need is not an issue of calculating shipping price per item but having a tool to exclude shipping to certain zones on specific products.
By having a solution in the on-line store we can prevent confusion if someone wants to buy something and have it shipped to Canada for example where that item may not be able to be shipped. (we have a lot of Canadian customers).
Anyone know of an extension for this or know of an OpenCart user that has set up such a control in their store?
You can use Restrict Shipping Methods for this, to limit the shipping methods from appearing when certain products are in the cart. You'd need to either have the whole order be "pickup from store" if controller items were in the cart, or else disable all shipping methods and have the customer contact you.
