So, new to this, please bear with me here

I have measured and weighed every single item in my store (pounds and ounces), they vary from something that will fit in a small envelope upto items that would only fit in a large flat rate Priority box.

I installed the USPS module and after a few days trying finally got USPS to put me onto their actual server instead of the test server.

I have the following options checked in my USPS module

First Class Mail Parcel
Parcel Post
Priority Regular Flat Rate Box
Priority Mail Flat Rate Large Box
Priority Mail Flat Rate Small Box

When I put an item in my cart and check out, it shows pricing for every single one of these options (see below for example of what I am getting)

United States Postal Service
Priority Mail 2-Day™ Large Flat Rate Box $16.85
Priority Mail 2-Day™ Medium Flat Rate Box $12.35
Priority Mail 2-Day™ Small Flat Rate Box $5.80
Standard Post® $5.60

How do I just get the correct sized flat rate box, First Class Mail Parcel and Parcel Post to show up

It doesn't matter what size or weight the item is, the options remain the same.

**I also have the thing going on but I think I can take care of that after reading the fixes on here.

Thanks in advance

Flat Rate Boxes in USPS do not do any volume calculations to see if the products would fit in the box. You can approximate the flat rate boxes by using Volume-Based Shipping, as I describe in this tutorial here:

So can I use this module alongside the regular USPS module, so in essence I am only using it for the flat rate boxes, and all other items that would not fit in a flat rate box would just get the regular USPS shipping option?

Thanks in advance

Yes, that's the idea. Shipping methods in OpenCart are independent of one another, so each shipping method that is enabled will be presented to the customer as its own option during checkout.

Thanks very much for this, I bought the volume based shipping mod and it works exactly how I hoped it would.

I do need a little more help if possible……..We sell books as well as other stuff, is there a mod available that will allow me to just have USPS Media Mail available for these books, whilst not showing up for any other products?

Thanks in advance……..You guys are a fantastic source of information.

I have a Restrict Shipping Methods extension that can restrict a shipping method by products in the cart -- however, it cannot restrict individual rates within a method (yet). I hope to add that feature, but for now, you'd need to duplicate the USPS method (by duplicating all the files and replacing all instances of "usps" or "Usps" in them with something like "usps2" and "Usps2").

So I thought this volume based shipping option had been working fine for us, only to be told today by 3 different customers that as soon as they try and check out they get an error message stating

"United States Postal Service
Warning - The package weight cannot exceed 70 pounds."

I presumed they had too many products in their cart, so tested it with a test shipping account.....

Total of shipment is 6lb 03oz, and I get that same error message.

I have seen several people in our store at the checkout, but they never seem to complete, I guess they got the same message. This means we are losing business hand over foot.

Anybody help out here or shine a light on what is wrong with the module?

Little bit more info....When I do a test purchase for one or two smaller items it goes through just fine. There must be something amiss when the volume gets higher

If it's relating to my Volume-Based Shipping or Restrict Shipping Methods extensions, please contact me at the e-mail address in the extension files, or www.getclearthinking.com/contact, for support. I'll get a screenshot of your settings or your admin info so I can take a look.
